Speed Gates: Elevating Your Security with Advanced Integration Options

Looking to level up your building’s security? Fed up of queues, disruption, and lost visitors? Speed Gates provide a modern and reliable medium-security solution for buildings across the globe.

Not only do they act as a physical barrier against intruders, but they assist facilities managers or security personnel in controlling the flow of people in and around your premises. With built-in tailgating detection, property owners and users can rest assured that no unauthorised people gain access to the building.

When integrated with visitor management systems, speed gates empower guards and receptionists to control the number and direction of people passing through. These gates boast a sleek and sophisticated design, with a range of aesthetic options available to complement the unique requirements of each project.

What sets speed gates apart is their remarkable capacity for integration. In this blog, we delve into the key add-ons and accessories that can elevate your turnstiles to new heights, enhancing both your security measures and overall efficiency.

Speed Gate Integration Capabilities

Here at Boon Edam, we like to put the power in your hands, giving you the opportunity to fine-tune your entrance solutions. After all, every building has different security requirements, and every project is unique. We have a range of accessories that are compatible with our speed gates and access gates. Let’s take a look at what’s available.

BoonTouch Access Control Panel

Speed gates are just the start of your access control system — so where better to begin than with the very thing that brings it all together? The BoonTouch Access Control Panel works alongside your turnstiles to help you manage varying flows of traffic through your building. Giving you full remote control over all of your entrance products, the BoonTouch lets you set up roles and rights for who can control the panel and who can pass through which entrance.

No longer do receptionists need to grant people access one by one. Instead, they set permissions and let authentication cards and passes do the rest of the work!

Facial Recognition Technology

A smiling office worker walks through a Boon Edam Speed Gate, as facial recognition technology scans her face and approves access.

Biometric technology being used for security is no longer a vague image of the future — it’s being used to level up entrance solutions around the world. This particular method of biometrics involves using an algorithm to extract facial features from a video or photo, which are then instantly captured and translated into a unique code. The facial recognition software then compares this code to a database to identify the person and determine whether access should be granted.

Facial recognition technology can be seamlessly integrated into our speed gates to enable a fast and efficient entry process. With this technology, there's no need to wait at the point of entry as the system recognises individuals as they approach. Moreover, facial recognition eliminates the risk of sharing access credentials with others and is simple to use. With high levels of accuracy, this technology ensures a secure and hands-free experience for all.

Access Control Mount –  Lifeline Boost

Designed for simple ‘plug and play’ use, this access control mount helps you to integrate higher security into existing speed gates in the Lifeline Speedlane Series. With a slim and modern design, the Lifeline Boost fits right in.

So what does it bring to a speed gate? It allows for:

  • Mobile phone or card access via a scanner
  • Card collection for one-time access (like a train ticket!), helping to cope with visitors
  • Fingerprint recognition

There’s even the option to add Morphowave Compact, an entirely contactless solution that opens the gate when an authorised person waves their hand over the scanner.

Lift Destination Control

A businessman in a suit is surrounded by digitally-rendered blue arrows pointing upwards. He presses on one of them, as if to summon a lift.

Elevators are often a bottleneck point in busy buildings or at specific times of day. To manage this flow of traffic, access to a lift lobby can be controlled via speed gates – which are equipped with access control systems like card readers. QR scanners or biometric devices. But the efficiency of this can be improved upon even further via the integration of a lift destination control system. Here’s how it works:

1. A user approaches the speed gate and uses their authentication method (card, QR code, fingerprint scan or facial recognition, depending on what is installed)

2. Once the credentials are authenticated by the access control system, the destination control system communicates with the user’s data

3. The data is quickly analysed by the technology to establish:

  •  The user’s assigned floor
  • Any special entry requirements
  • Which elevators are available
  • Whether any other users are heading to the same floor

4. The speed gate triggers the elevator request as soon as the user is authorised and sends down the appropriate elevator

This entire process happens in a matter of seconds — saving users time waiting at elevators and figuring out who is going where. It also maintains your building’s security, sending the correct personnel to their authorised location(s).

The Port 4 Mini

The Schindler PORT 4 Mini is a Lift Destination Display that gives lift guidance to visitors and personnel. Users can simply scan their access credentials – be it a card or downloaded code – and get early elevator allocation details. Visitors can be issued with one-time access colour codes that they can scan to make use of the Port 4 Mini.

We integrated this technology into the Lifeline Speedlane Swing speed gates at Sydney's Dexus Gateway Building, where Boon Edam, Schindler and IDEMIA culminated a state-of-the-art entrance security system. Find out more about the Dexus Gateway Building project here.
